HEALTH AND SAFETY POLICY

Introduction

Allied Mills is part of the Milling & Baking group of Associated British Foods, we operate six mills on three sites in Tilbury, Manchester and Belfast and produce cereal based products; flours, mixes and co-products.

The milling process involves receiving wheat in bulk by road and ship, processing it into flour and delivering it to our customers in bulk or bags by road and rail; our production process is highly automated with relatively few staff employed. Co-products are made into pellets and collected by customers.

Policy

Allied Mills consider Health and Safety of equal importance to that of any other function of the business and takes full account of its legal and ethical responsibilities to provide and maintain safe and healthy working conditions for its employees. We also ensure, so far as is reasonably practicable, the safety of contractors, visitors and others who may be affected by our activities. Overall responsibility for health and safety rests with the Director of Milling.

We recognise that health and safety is a major responsibility of the management team and that all employees must take reasonable care for their own safety and that of other people who may be affected by their acts or omissions. To help us meet our responsibility we have achieved OHSAS 18001 (1999) as our management system standard. Through the system we will ensure the management of health and safety goes beyond legal compliance and corporate requirements, but achieves continual improvement in standards through regular monitoring of our OH&S performance and periodic setting and review of specific OH&S objectives.

This policy is formally reviewed on an annual basis by the Senior Management Team. A copy of the current version is signed by the Director and General Manager and communicated to staff and other interested parties via the site H&S notice board; contractors are briefed on the policy statement through receipt of the Code for Contractors document and on site H&S induction.
